When we think of Kelly Wiglesworth we
simultaneously cry crocodile tears and
burst out laughing, for never in
television history has anyone come closer
to winning a million dollars and losing
than Kelly. Nor can we recall anyone
else in television history who has been
forced to quietly sit still while
receiving a tongue lashing that consisted
in part of comparing one's integrity and
moral character to the integrity and moral
character of rats & snakes.
But through it
all Kelly showed what she is made of,
showed a measure of strength and dignity
that few can really claim. She
handled the rats & snakes speech, she
handled being runner-up by the narrowest
of margins, and she handled seeing her
million dollar check go to the fat gay guy
who so annoyed tens of millions
nationwide.
Kelly's revenge
has been living well, has been taking
advantage of her celebrity status and having fun
doing it. On E's Talk Soup,
she poked fun at her misfortunes, and
indeed, when you can laugh away your
sorrows & disappointments in this
world, you're already halfway to heaven.
