From beginning to end during Survivor 5
Thailand, Jan Gentry baffled us
completely. She didn't waste any
time getting started, either. It
commenced with Episode 1 when she chose
her Chuay Gahn tribemates with an emphasis
on age over beauty, sagacity over youth, and
temperance over enthusiasm. And though
the group ultimately proved formidable, her
selections were no less bizarre or
inexplicable.
Yet lo & behold the Jan circus had only just begun.
During the ensuing month she shed crocodile tears
for every dead critter in the wild, even
fashioning a pet cemetery of sorts where she
buried a baby bat, and the remains of a chicken that
had served as a tribal meal.
But her ultimate bafflement proved to be her staying
power, which surprised everyone in the
world. As any gambler will tell
you though, even 200 to 1 longshots have a
chance to win on occasion, and in the end
Jan finished third. Quite a feat for
the sentimental journeyer and Survivor
cryptkeeper. |
